About this time last year, Christina and I were blessed by this skit. Since then, I have seen many renditions of this powerful skit. I believe that Christina did a wonderful job modifying the skit for Discover 2007. Mallory, Jarod, Billy, Thomas, Cheyene, Holly, and J.T. did a phenomenal job of acting it out. Unfortunately, we do not have a recording to add to the splendid collection.

I have seen my share of skits, but this one makes me cry every time. Imagine how much I cried when I saw my kids acting out this skit.  By the way, I’m usually the one who doesn’t cry. In fact, in my masculine defense, I proudly say that this is the only movie that makes me cry every time.

Why?

I sometimes cry because of how I can see God desiring me to choose Him over the world. However, most of the time I cry because of the many times I’ve seen the person at the end of the rope crying out for help. Many names and faces come to mind.  How about you?

Jesus commands us to help pull on the rope(the ministry of reconciliation). I can’t think of a better image of what we are trying to do through Discover. We want them to know that they have a God who hasn’t given up on them. I believe He will do whatever it takes through our Discover team to pull that kid back home with Him where he or she belongs.

Do you know some people at the wrong end of the rope? How can we help you bring them to Discover 2008? Please, let us join you in pulling on the rope.

As you get older you will cry more and more at these things, trust me…… At first you try to maintain your “masculinity” and then you get old enough to quit worrying about that and realize God gave you these emotions for a reason. To me, there is something cleansing about shedding tears for something that is spiritual and touches you deeply enough to make you cry. We just have to get old enough to not care that our peers laugh at our sentimentality. Looking forward to a great Discover ‘08 and more moments like this one that you talked about.

Love you bro! You are my inspiration. To be my “baby” brother you have turned out to be our leader. I am very proud of you. Don’t ever give up on me.

I guess I better get used to the tears. I know I’ve cried my share with you while watching a certain team.

I love you and always will. I am here for you and will never let go of the rope!!

With such a powerful post and precious comments, this really isn’t the place — but not only are you an ‘uncool’ youth minister, you’re an uncool dad if you don’t know what heelies are (actually, if your children don’t have them, you have my undying gratitude). My thoughts on heelies (and a picture): http://sarahstirman.blogspot.com/2007/08/public-service-announcement.html

I appreciate the compliment of being young enough to be one of your kids… The great thing about that skit was each one of the kids was out of their comfort zone. Everything that could go wrong before hand did making us all nervous, it was apparent Satan didn’t want that skit going anywhere. But the kids put it behind them and pressed on. I was super proud of all of them.

    Jarod,
You did a great job as Jesus in the skit!!!! I hope you know I wasn’t referring to you or Christina as my kids. However, I am glad you consider that a compliment. Also, thanks for doing a great job on our posters!! We are praying for your sis’.
